Guest curator του σημερινού μας newsletter είναι ο μουσικός Eddie Dark.
Τον Eddie τον πέτυχα τυχαία στο Instagram και μου έκανε εντύπωση η εικόνα του με το corpse paint make up και τα λουλούδια.
Η μουσική του είναι φούλ κολλητική - ένα μείγμα τσιτωμένης pop με dark wave στοιχεία και στίχους με βάθος, αλλά και χιούμορ. Το Πλαστικό είναι ένα εξαιρετικό πρώτο δείγμα.

🚶Αγαπημένο σποτ στην Αθήνα
Κάποτε είχα διαβάσει μια έρευνα για την Μιχαήλ Βόδα - την «καταραμένη οδό» - και τον κόσμο που μένει εκεί. Είχα ενθουσιαστεί με το πόσο αλλόκοτο μέρος είναι, με φωτεινό παράδειγμα ένα συγκεκριμένο ψιλικατζίδικο στο οποίο ο ψιλικατζής έχει κρεμάσει μια φωτογραφία που τον δείχνει στο ίδιο ακριβώς σημείο, με την ίδια ακριβώς στάση και έκφραση, με μοναδική διαφορά τα μαλλιά του που είναι λίγο πιο σκούρα - σαν να βρίσκεσαι στην ζώνη του λυκόφωτος ένα πράγμα.
Όποτε νιώθω πως η ζωή μου γίνεται πολύ προβλέψιμη και ο ίδιος γίνομαι βαρετός, πηγαίνω για περπάτημα εκεί στις 3 το πρωί. Νομίζω μου δίνει μια ενέργεια που χρειάζομαι σαν άνθρωπος.
🧟 Επιρροές
Το oπτικό κομμάτι του Eddie Dark είναι εξίσου σημαντικό με το ακουστικό. Η κινησιολογία του χαρακτήρα είναι βασισμένη στους πίνακες του Egon Schiele, ενώ η εμφάνιση του είναι μια μίξη του Cesar από το “Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” και του Dr. Frank-N-Furter από το “Rocky Horror Picture Show”.
Όσον αφορά το χιούμορ και τις εκφράσεις του χαρακτήρα, νομίζω η ταινία που με έχει επηρεάσει σε τεράστιο βαθμό είναι το «Phantom of the Paradise» - αν θυμάμαι καλά, την πρώτη φορά που την είδα σκέφτηκα πόσο ενδιαφέρον θα ήταν να έβλεπε κανείς το κάθε act της ταινίας ζωντανά, και επειδή δεν υπήρχε πουθενά κάτι παρόμοιο, σκέφτηκα ότι έπρεπε να το κάνω εγώ.
Μουσικά είμαι βαθιά επηρεασμένος από τον John Maus και τους Γεμάτος Αράχνες, Ρε Φίλε! - ένας συνδυασμός που νομίζω λειτουργεί πολύ καλυτέρα από ό,τι θα φανταζόταν κανείς.
🥃 Μέρος για ποτό
Οι πιο “τραγικές” στιγμές μου έχουν συμβεί στο Santa Rosa στα Εξάρχεια. Αυτό το μπαρ έχει τη δυνατότητα να κάνει τα πάντα λίγο πιο κινηματογραφικά από ό,τι όντως είναι. Ανυπομονώ να έρθει ο βαρύς χειμώνας για να μπορώ να το ευχαριστηθώ όπως πρέπει - δηλαδή προσποιούμενος ότι είμαι μελαγχολικός πίνοντας κονιάκ όσο έξω κάνει κρύο.
🧥Ένα αγαπημένο αντικείμενο
Έχω ένα μαύρο σακάκι που μου έχει αλλάξει τη ζωή. Όποτε το φοράω νιώθω αμέσως άνετα σε οποιαδήποτε κατάσταση. Οι φίλοι μου με κοροϊδεύουν γιατί μου είναι τεράστιο και μοιάζω με τον David Byrne. Είναι ίσως το μόνο αντικείμενο στη ζωή μου που με ενδιαφέρει να έχω για πάντα.

Τα κομπλιμέντα μου συχνά ακούγονται σαν προσβολές.

Ό,τι κάνεις πρέπει να το κάνεις απολύτως σοβαρά - αλλά ποτέ, μα ποτέ, δεν πρέπει να παίρνεις τον εαυτό σου στα σοβαρά. Αν έχεις επαφή με τον εαυτό σου, καταλαβαίνεις πόσο παράξενος και πόσο μη σημαντικός είσαι, με αποτέλεσμα να αποκτάς και μια κατανόηση για τις παραξενιές των άλλων - πράγμα που κάνει τη ζωή σου πολύ πιο χαρούμενη.
Κι ένα ακόμα: ο αρλεκίνος ζει συνήθως πολύ περισσότερο από τον βασιλιά.

Today’s guest newsletter curator is musician Eddie Dark.
I saw Eddie on Instagram and was surprised by his image wearing corpse paint makeup and holding flowers.
His music has been stuck in my head for weeks now - a mix of dynamic pop with dark wave elements with deep existential lyrics with a dose of humor. Plastiko is a great introductory track.

🚶A favourite spot in Athens
Sometime ago I had come across some research about Michael Voda street - “the cursed street” - and the people who live there. I was amazed by how much of a weird place it is and a bright example of that is a specific corner shop where the owner has a photo of himself on display - in that photo he stands at the same spot where he usually does now, he has the same expression and posture and the only difference is his hair which used to be a bit darker. It’s like being in the twilight zone.
When I feel like my life is becoming too predictable and I’m also becoming boring, I go for a walk there around 3am. I think it gives me the energy I need as a person.
🧟 Influences
The visual and audio elements of Eddie Dark are equally important. The character’s kinesiology is based on Egon Schiele’s paintings, while his appearance is a mix between Cesar from “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” and Dr. Frank-N-Furter from “Rocky Horror Picture Show”. When it comes to the character’s humour and expressions, I think that the movie that has largely influenced me is «Phantom of the Paradise» - if i remember correctly, the first time I saw it I thought that it would be very interesting if every act of the movie could be performed live, and since there was nothing similar already happening, I thought that I should do it myself. My music is deeply influenced by John Maus and “Γεμάτος Αράχνες, Ρε Φίλε!” - a combination that I think works a lot better than people would expect.
🥃 A place to drink
My most “tragic” moments have taken place at Santa Rosa in Exarheia. This bar can make everything more cinematic than it actually is. I can’t wait for heavy winter to come so I can enjoy it the right way - by pretending that I am feeling melancholic and drinking a glass of cognac while it’s cold outside.
🧥A favourite item
I have a black jacket that has changed my life. Whenever I wear it I feel very comfortable in any situation. My friends make fun of me because it’s huge and I look like David Byrne. This jacket is probably the only item I want to keep for life.

My compliments are often perceived as insults.
💭 A quote
Anything you do, you should do it seriously - however, you should never take yourself too seriously. If you are in touch with yourself, you can understand how weird and unimportant you are and as a result you become more understanding of other people’s weird habits. This makes your life a lot happier.
And one more - the harlequin usually outlives the king.
